Rewind a couple of decades and blue would never have been considered as a colour palette for a wedding theme. Today, blue is bang on trend. Navy and Royal Blue softened with white and ivory can make a bold instant impact whereas paler tones can combine for contrasting seasons. Icy blue with snowflakes and crystals for an ice palace winter theme or a summer fayre of hydrangeas, forget-me-nots or delphiniums.
One of the main reasons that blue was not thought of as a traditional wedding colour was because the mainstream wedding flowers such as roses and lilies do not have a natural blue in the variants of their species. Of course, genetic engineering and artificial colour dyes have changed this trend and now a blue rose wedding bouquet can be ordered from a designer florist.
